The human body is undoubtedly one of the most complex systems that we know of. In this human body, innumerable processes go on every minute. To understand the intricacies of hormones, let us first understand the meaning of the term hormone. A hormone is a chemical substance that is released by some cells in the body to carry out an effect on some other cells of the body. Hormones perform various functions. Some are responsible for growth; some for immunity; some for regulation of body functions; some for controlling reproductive organs or for producing feelings such as that of fear, etc.

Such a hormone, responsible for stimulation of growth and inhibition of growth in the human body is the human growth hormone. Reproduction of cells and stimulation of growth is done by the peptide hormone called Growth Hormone. Within the anterior pituitary gland, a special kind of cells secretes the growth hormone. The genes that are responsible for this are called Growth Hormone 2 and Myles genes. This hormone increases height and produces growth in adolescents. It is also responsible for stimulation of the immune system and plays important part in homeostasis. Deficiency of this hormone leads to growth disorders in children.
